Thank you for taking a look at my page. My name is Sophie Taverner and I am a designer with an interest in free machine embroidery and painting.

My first set of original free machine embroidered prints were set around a meadow scene.  “Wild Wisps of Hedgerow” shown here, I named from Laurie Lee’s “Cider with Rosie”.

Scenes of British countryside at its best evoked in my imagination what I would like to transfer into embroidered form in my first set of original prints.

In time, I pursued a new route of embroidering onto a tie.  By laying out the design myself either by machine embroidering it by hand onto cotton canvas or sketching it, I then use a professional machine set up to repeat the design exactly as it was originally.

I set about creating a range of ties under the name “The Salcombe Tie Company”, a batch of limited edition ties with attention to quality and finish for a special gift.
